About me

I explore fields of various numerical analysis, identification, control and mathematical modeling of dynamical systems. I conduct laboratory classes, lectures and tutorials within the frame of Mechatronics and Automation at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FME) of Lodz University of Technology (TUL).

Basically, my research work is oriented to the natural sciences like physics, mathematics and mechanics, putting special emphasis on numerical computations, optimization and control of continuous and discontinuous dynamical systems, as well as conducting experimental laboratory investigations. I spent about one year (from September 2005 to August 2006) in Ireland, working for industry and having a possibility to get practical knowledge about production and design of hydraulic cylinders.

From 2019, I have been employed as Professor of TUL.

In 2013 I received D.Sc. degree in Applied Mechanics from TUL. It was preceded by an issue of the monograph that covered special applications of numerical methods for solution of discontinuous dynamical systems.

In age of 27, in 2002, I received Ph.D. degree, defending my Doctoral Thesis in Applied Mechanics with a distinction of experimental research (reviews). In that time I have designed and run a small research stand bringing to a wider audience an experimentally modeled discontinuous two degrees-of-freedom mechanical system of a duo-servo drum brake mechanism. Numerical and experimental results of the research were presented at a couple of national and international conferences.

Since 2000 I am with the Department of Automation, Biomechanics and Mechatronics of Lodz University of Technology. I give lectures in the theory of control, optimization, mechatronics, programming languages like Scilab and LabView. I write scientific papers in the field of modelling, analysis, control, identification and optimization of continuous and discontinuous dynamical systems. Since 2007, I am a member of organizing committee of the conference on 'Dynamical Systems – Theory and Applications' (from 2017 as a Vice-chairman). In 2009-2015 and 2018-2019 I co-worked on the didactic programs of studies for the specialization of Mechatronics and Automation and Robotics at FME, respectively.

In 2000, after 5 years of study at the Faculty of Technical Physics, Computer Science and Applied Mathematics I received M.Sc. Eng. degree in Computer Physics from Lodz University of Technology.

In 1995, after 5 years of study at the Technical College in Zduńska Wola (Poland) I received the professional title "Technician in Machining".

Main achievements in the solution of scientific problems

  • Experimental identification of a kinetic friction force model in the pendulum with a rotational contact with friction and impacts. The results were published in 2020 in the journal 'Nonlinear Dynamics'
  • Application of an algorithm of precise numerical solution of dynamics and computation of the spectrum of Lyapunov exponents of chaotic motion of a model of variable length two-degrees-of-freedom oscillator. The results were published in 2019 in the journal 'Mathematical and Computational Applications'
  • Elaboration of a numerical procedure for visualization of almost quasi-periodic motions in a model of single-degree oscillator with a step-wave modulated length and forcing. The results were published in 2019 in 'International Journal of Structural Stability'
  • Elaboration of a numerical method based on coupled oscillators approach for identification of nonlinear damping of real vibrating systems, for which a free step response is accessible as a time series (based on experiments of my Ph.D. thesis). The method was published in 2018 in the journal of 'Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing'
  • Elaboration of an algorithm for approximate numerical solution of planar discontinuous dynamical systems. The method was published in 2013 in my D.Sc. thesis, and in 2015 in the journal of 'Applied Mathematical Sciences'
  • Elaboration of an algorithm for numerical estimation of discontinuous transitions existing in Filippov-type dynamical systems. The algorithm was published in 2013 in my D.Sc. thesis, and in 2014 in the journal of 'Nonlinear Dynamics'
  • Elaboration of a numerical scheme of voltage-input tracking control of direct current motors with friction. The method was published in 2013 in my D.Sc. thesis and in the journal of 'Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems'
  • Elaboration of an experimental stick-slip friction law modeling frictional forces between hard and soft material surfaces subject to irregular intensification of normal load at the contact (in 2002, Ph.D. thesis)
  • Elaboration of a numerical procedure for computation of a spectrum of Lyapunov exponents from a non-evenly distributed time series of states of four-dimensional chaotic dynamical system using Lagrange interpolation (in 2001, Ph.D. thesis)
